SOUTH LIGHTHOUSE DUNES LANDCARE PROJECT
This project was started in August 2007 to rehabilitate the dunes that were heavily infested with Bitou Bush
and Lantana and help connect and improve the wildlife corridor along Lighthouse Beach.
This photo shows part of the site with the Bitou Bush having been sprayed and mulched by
Landcare volunteers. Seeds of Acacia sophora were direct seeded and seedlings of plants
native to the area were planted to help stabilise the dunes.
Maintenance weeding of feral
species is carried out by Landcare volunteers to encourage regeneration of the area with
native plant species, and there are now regular signs of native fauna.
This project is now under the stewardship of PMHC.
